Roel Praas was born in Haarlem in 1953. He studied piano at the Stedelijk Conservatorium in Zwolle with Thom Bollen, where he also obtained his soloist diploma. He then continued his studies with Alwin Bär in Amsterdam and Geoffrey Madge in The Hague. Abroad, he took courses with Claude Hellfer in France and in Austria with Ergican Saydam. Roel Praas is a much sought-after pianist for piano recitals and enjoys fame as an accompanist of choirs, singers and instrumentalists. He was, among others, repetiteur at Soli Deo Gloria in Nijverdal and since 2010 at C.O.V. Hosanna in Rijssen and recently at Toonkunst Almelo. In the autumn of 2021, he made a second CD with piano music by English composers under the title: ‘Piano impressions’ from the British Isles. This can also be listened to via Spotify. Earlier, in 2002, he made a solo CD with works by Scarlatti, Schubert and Poulenc. As a piano teacher, he was associated with the Kaliber Art School for more than 40 years.
