The Working Group on Elderly Education, the four joint Senior Citizens' Associations of Laarbeek and LEV Laarbeek are organising a film series for the thirteenth time this year. The theme of this series is: Freedom, a wrestling process.
You often only realise the importance and value of something when you miss it, when it is taken away from you or emphatically denied to you. This is especially true of freedom. The recent, often drastic and sometimes very painful curtailments of our freedom have fuelled and sharpened the debate on this topic. But the picture of what freedom actually and deeply means is and usually remains rather murky. Too often, freedom is taken for granted, something that is or should be there without question. Freedom is also often thought and talked about too simply and too easily. The films in this cycle show that freedom is not something that comes as a ready-made package. Freedom always unfolds in a wide margin of bondage and dependence. Within this, man must make his choices of good or evil, true or false, beautiful or ugly.
The film afternoons always take place in the main hall of the Village Hall in Lieshout. The film starts with a short introduction by Philip Verdult, who worked as a philosopher at Radboud University Nijmegen until his retirement. The film will then be screened. After the film there will be a short break, followed by an interactive debriefing led by Philip Verdult. You are free to decide whether you want to attend; however, this is highly recommended. The afternoon, including debriefing, lasts until about 5 pm. Introduction only, film, coffee/tea until about 4.15 pm.
