Lecture on the starry sky at IVN Laarbeek
Emile Weijters will give a lecture entitled ‘The fascinating starry sky’ in building De Bimd of IVN Laarbeek.
In this lecture, using this evening's starry sky as an example, he will discuss topics such as stars, constellations and distances, movements in the night sky, colours of stars, the formation and disappearance of stars, age of the universe.
During the lecture, Emile zooms in on our own galaxy, the Milky Way, and then on the solar system with its various planets, comets and meteors. He will also talk about galaxies, white dwarfs, red giants, neutron stars, black holes and exoplanets. Of course, the Big Bang and the recent measurement of gravitational waves are also discussed. He also discusses topics such as dark matter and dark energy.

Emile Weijters is a member of IVN Valkenswaard-Waalre. He studied at TU Eindhoven and is an experienced speaker. His presentation, rich in images, will be supported with a tellurium (sun-earth-moon model), a large star chart and demonstration materials. If the sky is clear, a telescope will be set up.
