Hans van Gorp from Asten has been performing throughout the Netherlands and Belgium for decades. With the programme 'Een beetje Cools...en een beetje Van Gorp', he pays tribute to the nestor of Flemish cabaret Miel Cools. A large number of songs by Cools can be heard, but also a number of songs by Van Gorp himself, clearly inspired by Cools' work. A mix of old and new, in other words. It is up to the audience to decide to whom which song can be attributed! Van Gorp came into contact with Cools' work through the LPs 'Nachten dat de spin niet spinnen' and 'Miel Cools zingt Ernst van Altena'. The admiration for a great artist was born.

The musical idiom of the songs, the arrangements and, not to forget, the fantastic lyrics by many top authors, such as Van Altena, Dreesen, Leeflang, Wilmink, made an indelible impression. That was the moment Hans van Gorp decided he wanted to do something similar himself. Miel Cools has always been a shining example to him. An example of how someone, armed only with a guitar and a bundle of beautiful songs, can captivate and carry away an entire hall. Van Gorp's own work can therefore conceivably reflect Cools' influence.
