Liberty Fire De Peel
Tuesday 19 September
In 2019, we celebrated 75 years of freedom in the Peel region. There turned out to be so much enthusiasm for lighting and spreading the Freedom Fire that reprises were obvious. In the course of the first years, the number of participating municipalities also kept increasing, on both sides of the Brabant-Limburg provincial border. The event became so extensive that the organising working group set up the independent Vrijheidsvuur de Peel foundation for it.

The aim of the foundation is to make the inhabitants of the Peel region from young to old more aware of the value of freedom in the broadest sense of the word. They want to involve all village centres in this, together with their organisations and volunteers concerned with liberation and freedom.
They want to achieve this by:
annually collecting the Liberation Fire in Eindhoven on 18 September, annually fanning out the Liberation Fire in the Peel on 19 September from one of the centres of the Peel municipalities, annually appointing one of the Peel municipalities in a rotation as the host municipality for Freedom Fire de Peel, through cooperation with various disciplines. This could include local committees, associations and working groups, runners and runner associations, guilds and militias, musical groups and soloists, local reception committees, etc.
This year's celebration is at Open Air Theatre Mariahout on behalf of the municipality of Laarbeek.
