Jaap Robben (b. 1984) is a poet and author. He actually wanted to become an archaeologist, but
first completed his studies in Environmental Social Sciences. Since 2004
he has published poetry, novels, articles, children's books and translations. He also
several times for the theater. He does not write specifically for an age, but for
everyone in particular. His work has received many awards, his novels have been
filmed and his work now appears in fifteen languages. With his novel Birk (2014)
he broke through to the general public. This novel - now in its 21st printing - was awarded
several awards. In 2023 Schemerleven appeared, about which he himself
says the following:
"This novel stems from a poem I once wrote for deceased, unbaptized
children who between 1950 and 1980 were taken away in childbirth and secretly
had to be buried, nameless in unconsecrated ground. That poem was written on a

women who had been through this and had never talked about it, not even
with their own husbands, even if it was their joint child."
