Gate of Ribbius at the Heuvel 1 in Lieshout
The gate of Ribbius is actually the gate of Binderen, and originally stood in Helmond as the entrance to Binderen abbey.
The structure, which dates from 1474, was moved to Lieshout at the end of the 18th century.
The story goes that Johan Jacobus Ribbius went to Den Bosch on horseback together with his friend, Baron Johan C.G. van de Brugghen of Croy Castle.
On the return journey they had to take shelter from a thunderstorm in Boxtel at the inn 'Oud Maastricht', where they played a card.
The baron had a lot of bad luck and lost time after time.
In the end he even bet his recently acquired estate Binderen (1792).
He had yet to lose that too.

This was too much for the Lieshout resident Ribbius and he returned everything except the Binderen gate.
Ribbius wanted to keep the gate as a souvenir of this daring card game.
The Lieshout gate was rebuilt in the old shape as well as possible, and to this day it still stands in the same place.
