A statue that has stood in that spot for about ninety years. It was probably placed at the same time as the church in Mariahout was built. It was put there by the board of the church in Lieshout, on the initiative of 'Pastorke van Thiel' from Helmond. In those days he placed crucifixes everywhere. The statue has always stood in that spot. It has only been moved a little, set back more towards the woods, when the crossing was tackled. Over the years, the statue has been regularly restored, as has the cross. The last time was about ten years ago, when the wooden cross was replaced. In 1993, a completely new statue was needed. The old one was made of plaster. The new statue is a cast iron one, painted white. In Mariahout people came to attend funerals. They saw that a new statue was needed. One of them knew that there was one in Son near the church. And so it happened that the statue from Mariahout was replaced by one from Son.
