In 2009, a monument was erected on the church square in Ommel in memory of 12 residents of Ommel who died during the occupation as a result of acts of war. The monument was designed by Marijn Bankers and commissioned by the Ommel Working Group.

The monument has a stone column base 1 metre high, topped with a plaque depicting the skyline of Ommel. The names of the 12 residents of Ommel are also engraved on the plaque. Jan, Leo, Anna and Dina Klaus; Martien, Theo, Louis, Hendrik, Miet, Nella and Helena Michiels; and Jan van Eijk, conscripted soldier.

The following text accompanies the plaque:

'To forget is exile,
