De Groote Peel National Park
De Groote Peel is one of the few pieces that remain of the immense high moor that once formed the border between Brabant and Limburg. Today it is a nature reserve of international class, especially renowned for its birdlife. Wide and watery, the landscape reminds us of the past. At the time it was a place to avoid, now you can walk to your heart's content. Traces of the past can be found everywhere, when diligent workers dug out the peat, "the gold of the Peel", in the sweat of their brow.

Experience De Groote Peel National Park at Buitencentrum De Pelen
Come to visitor center 'Buitencentrum De Pelen' and enjoy all the beauty that De Groote Peel National Park has to offer.
Signposted routes of two (yellow), three (red) and six (blue) kilometers start at the entrance of the outdoor center. The yellow route is paved and suitable for wheelchairs and buggies. Along the way you can enjoy a wide and water-rich landscape. The red and blue route partly go over club bridges that make the swamp accessible. There is also a walking route over the sand ridge on the east side of the area. The purple heather blooms profusely in summer on the Amsloberg, the highest point in the Peel.
You can also walk further into the Groote Peel via the walkways; however, these may be closed during the breeding season between 15 March and 15 July. Check the map to see which paths are accessible all year round. During the breeding season, it is important to stay on the paths and keep dogs on a lead. This provides peace and quiet for birds as well as for mammals raising their young. In this way, recreation goes hand in hand with a good start for the young ones.
You can go to the counter of Staatsbosbeheer in the outdoor center for advice about a walking or cycling route. There is also a well-stocked shop with local products, books and nice souvenirs. You can enjoy a snack and a drink and a delicious lunch at the in-house catering industry "exceptionally tasty", with a conservatory and large terrace. On Sundays you can also visit the nearby Peel farm.
Staatsbosbeheer offers various activities from the outdoor center.
See you in De Pelen!
