The Strabrechtse heide
In August it turns purple on the Strabrechtse Heide. There are dry areas where the sand drifts and wet areas with fens teeming with dragonflies. In the middle of the heath is the Galgenberg, a small piece of open drifting sand, which is maintained by management measures to preserve the typical flora and fauna. The grassing of the heath is counteracted by grazing by a flock of sheep, by mowing and by mowing. On the Plaetse in Heeze, directly on the Strabrechtse heide, you will find the sheepfold that offers shelter to approximately 400 Kempen heath sheep. This sheep species has populated the Brabant heaths for centuries. The plaetse is a triangular square, where cattle used to be gathered to graze the heath. The Strabrechtse Heide is also easy to reach from Someren! From the large parking lot of Natuurpoort Vennenhorst along the Provincialeweg Someren-Heeze you can discover the beautiful Strabrechtse Heide by bike! (Someren Cycle Routes). From the parking lot and junction 98 you can follow the cycle route network that also runs over the Strabrechtse Heide!
