Maria van Deutekom, storyteller and theatre director, will give a lecture on Witches and Witch Stories at the Laarbeek Women's Society.

For centuries, witches have evoked curiosity, fear and fascination. Where do these images come from and what do they say about their time? Maria takes you on a journey through different images of witches, from the wise herbalist to the notorious sorceress. She reflects on witch hunts, including those in Brabant, and shows how folk tales, art and research have shaped the image of witches. With story excerpts read aloud, visual material and surprising facts – such as how to recognise and disenchant a witch – it will be a lively and accessible lecture. This morning is perfect for women who are curious about the Women's Society. In an open and relaxed atmosphere, you can get acquainted, listen in and meet other women without any obligation. The lecture will take place at the familiar home base of the Women's Society: De Couwenbergh in Aarle-Rixtel. Coffee will be served from 9.30 a.m. The entrance fee includes two cups of coffee or tea. All practical information can also be found on the website. You can easily register via the contact page.
