Workshop for parents: My child is learning to read

Your child is starting *groep 3* (the first year of primary school) and learning to read. It is a big step for your child—and for you.

Suddenly, it all begins: learning to read. The first words, sentences, and books. It is a special phase in which you, as a parent, can play a significant role. But how does learning to read actually work? What can you do to help your child without turning it into a "homework project"?

During this one-hour session, the De Lage Beemden Library introduces you to the world of beginning readers. You will receive practical tips, discover how to choose the right book, and learn more about reading levels and the importance of continuing to read aloud to your child—even after they can read on their own. An expert reading and media coach will guide you through the world of beginning readers and offer practical advice. You will learn why reading (and reading aloud) is important, what the library’s reading levels (AP, A, B, etc.) mean, how to identify early reading books and where to find them in the library, and see examples of different types of books; there will also be time to ask questions and share experiences. This free session is intended for parents of children who have just started *groep 3*. Whether you love reading yourself or found it difficult in the past, everyone is welcome to join us on Tuesday, October 13, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the *Ontmoetingscentrum* (Community Centre) in Beek en Donk.
