This walk takes you through the newly developed nature reserve 't Gulden Land, where the river Aa has regained its natural meanders. The mudflat walking tour starts at the entrance to Het Gulden Land, Janus Meulendijkspad (Koeienpad) in Aarle-Rixtel. The walk is approximately 3.5 kilometres long and it is advisable to wear boots or waterproof high shoes.

The “t Gulden Land nature reserve is located between the head of Aarle-Rixtel and Helmond-Noord and is enclosed by the 'old” Zuid-Willemsvaart canal and the diverted Zuid-Willemsvaart canal. The name 't Gulden Land refers to the Gulden Aa stream that flows through the area. The small river Aa also flows through the area. Traditionally, the area has been used for agriculture and nature. Over the years, the area had become very overgrown, making it less resistant to extreme weather conditions and less accessible to visitors. That is why the Aa en Maas Water Board, the municipality of Helmond and the municipality of Laarbeek have redesigned the nature reserve into an area where nature, water, history and recreation go hand in hand. The final phase of this development will be completed in 2025.

The Brabantse Aa meanders through the landscape as it always has done, and the paths meander along with it. The ramble takes you through tall reeds and along marshy banks, which may be a little muddy. Perfect for feeling like a child again: squelching boots, mud splatters on your trousers and a big smile on your face. An adventurous walk full of nature, water and wonder, exactly as 't Gulden Land is intended to be. Also very suitable for children.
