At the invitation of ABC, Sandra Langereis will travel from Amsterdam to Aarle-Rixtel to give a lecture on Erasmus.

ABC is the Arlenius Book Club from Aarle-Rixtel. It is one of the initiatives of the “Friends of Arlenius”. Arlenius was the scientific name of Arnoud van Eijndhouts, who was born in Aarle-Rixtel in 1510 and later in his life became an important figure in the book world in Italy. ABC organises literary evenings with speakers who have written a book that in some way relates to the life of Arlenius.

The paths of Erasmus and Arlenius crossed several times. Sandra Langereis wrote a biography about Erasmus: Erasmus dwarsdenker (Erasmus the contrarian), published in 2021. She won the Libris History Prize, among other awards, for this book. The thirteenth edition was published in January of this year. The meeting with Sandra Langereis will take place in café-zaal Bij Van Dijk.  For a small contribution, you will also receive a cup of coffee or tea upon arrival. If you would like to attend, please register by email with Wim Daniëls and transfer the amount to the account number of the treasurer of the Friends of Arlenius, Ted Hegeman: NL31 RABO 0322396166 (reference: Langereis lecture).
