Can you create a poem by crossing out words? Absolutely. During the Black Out Poetry workshop, you’ll discover how a new poem can be hidden in an old book page.
Black Out Poetry, also called marker poetry, is a creative way to make a poem. You use an existing text from an old book. By selecting some words and crossing out others, a new poem or short story will naturally emerge. You don’t need to be a poet or good with words. With a black marker, a little attention, and your own imagination, you can get quite far. You look at the words on the page. Which ones stand out? Which ones go together? By circling, underlining, and crossing out, you create your own marker poem. Afterwards, you can further decorate your poem. With black areas, shapes, or drawings, you turn the page into a small work of art. Think of a flower, a cloud, or just a nice pattern.
This free workshop is being organised twice by the Library, LEV Laarbeek and Huiskamers Laarbeek and is for children aged 6 to 12, their parents and grandparents. The first afternoon takes place at the Youth Library De Dreef in Aarle-Rixtel and the second afternoon at the Library of Beek en Donk. Please sign up via the library's website.
