Cinema het Witte Doek: Calle Malaga

A moving and heartwarming film about memories, love and the courage to live life on your own terms, whatever your age. In Calle Malaga, the latest film from director Maryam Touzani (The Blue Caftan), we meet 74-year-old Maria, who enjoys a peaceful life among the close-knit Spanish community in Tangier, Morocco.

Her familiar world is turned upside down when her daughter Clara arrives from Madrid with plans to sell the apartment Maria calls home. But Maria refuses to be pushed aside. Determined to protect her home and treasured memories, she stands her ground. Along the way, she unexpectedly discovers that love can find you again, even later in life.

Starring Carmen Maura, well known for her collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar, Calle Malaga is a tender celebration of growing older without giving up on life. The film won the Audience Award at the Venice Film Festival.
