Walking for freedom

Liberation Day is celebrated by the Amnesty groups Eindhoven, Gemert and Laarbeek with a sponsor walk.

The Amnesty Group Laarbeek, together with the groups from Gemert and Eindhoven, is holding the sponsor walk: Walking for Freedom. On Liberation Day, it is 80 years since the Netherlands was liberated from the dictatorship of Nazi Germany. With wars in Ukraine, Gaza and other hotbeds around the world, residents of the Netherlands should consider themselves lucky that we live in peace in a free country.

This is why Amnesty is celebrating peace and freedom with a sponsor walk. They will walk on Liberation Day from Eindhoven and Gemert to Museum Bevrijdende Vleugels in Best. They will leave in Gemert at 7.30 am from the club building of walking sports club Zuth (De Hoef 22, Gemert). It is a walk of about 22 km through Beek en Donk, Mariahout, Son en Breugel to Best. There will be a coffee/tea break at AanDagtig in Mariahout. If walking 22 km is too much, you can join at this point for the second part of the route. On arrival at the Museum Bevrijdende Vleugels, you will be welcomed with Jet van Nieuwkerk's Freedom Soup, as served throughout the Netherlands, at the initiative of the National Committee 4 and 5 May.
