The Barthold van Heessel Local History Society is hosting a lecture on Brabant during the Batavian Revolution. The speaker is Jurriaan Paulus van Pauwvliet, founder of the Centrum 1795 museum in Oosterhout.
At the end of the 18th century, the Netherlands underwent profound changes. During the Batavian Revolution, the foundations for Dutch democracy were laid. In 1796, the first national parliament convened, and in 1798, the first Dutch constitution was introduced. During the lecture, Van Pauwvliet will use historical prints to discuss the events that led to these changes. North Brabant will receive special attention. After a long period as a Generaliteitsland, Brabant regained its own administration and representation in the national parliament for the first time in 1796. The lecture will take place at De Couwenbergh in Aarle-Rixtel. Everyone is welcome.
