Quilting is a centuries-old craft and folk art that is still very much alive today. Quilting is practiced throughout the Netherlands, often by women who meet regularly in groups called bees, which stands for collective effort. They help and inspire each other. The togetherness is at least as important as the work itself: quilting connects.

The participants' styles range from modern and contemporary to traditional and classic. It is precisely this diversity that makes the exhibition surprising and captivating. In the comfortable classroom of experienced quilter Liesbeth Manders from Aarle-Rixtel, the quilting group 'Through the Eye of the Needle' meets biweekly. In addition to work by Liesbeth Manders, this exhibition features work by: Joke Hofman and Mieke Kanters from Beek en Donk, Marie-Louise van Dijk and Annemie van Lieshout from Deurne, Jannie Bloemers from Helmond, and Mieke van Poppel from Eindhoven.

If you'd like to exchange ideas with the makers about their work, you can. During the Art Café, the quilters will be happy to share their working methods, their inspiration, and the stories behind their work. How much time does a quilt take? How do you choose fabrics and patterns? What makes this ancient craft so appealing today? Visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while chatting, asking questions, and exploring the exhibition with a fresh perspective. Please register in advance via the appropriate link on the website of the art venue 't Oude Raadhuis.
