In freedom together we commemorate; In freedom we may celebrate'. This is the text that can be read on the Liberation Monument placed at the entrance to the procession park in Mariahout in September 2019, to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the southern Netherlands in the Second World War. Personal stories of people who consciously experienced the liberation must continue to be shared. One of the memories has been given a place on the paquette. The memory comes from Ad Vogels (Frz.), who was 12 years old at the time of liberation in 1944. The memory of Ad, who died in 1996, was included in the book 'Lieshout out of range', published by the Heemkundekring 't Hof van Liessent in 1994. On Monday 18 September, around noon, I was standing on the Ginderdoorseweg ... From the direction of Mariahout a strange military open car approaches; we saw the first jeep! ... The liberator waves as he drives by'.
