This plaque from the wall of the former Radboud MAVO was reinstalled in 2020 in a niche at the corner of Bernard de Merodestraat and Adelheid van Voornstraat. It features the image of Bishop Radboud, flanked by saints Mary with child, Lucia with palm branch, and Agnes with lamb. Radboud was bishop of the Diocese of Utrecht from 899 to 917. He devoted much of his life to science and education.
This artwork is located on the site where, starting in April 1952, a (M)ULO school for boys and girls stood. Shortly after the Second World War, in October 1945, this school had already started in the provisionally repaired parish building and then had 78 prospective students. In 1952, a proper school building was erected, in whose facade this plaque was incorporated in much the same way as it is now. The name (M)ULO was changed to MAVO in 1968.
This work of art is the result of a 2020 citizens' initiative to preserve a piece of local history.
