Statue of Mary Keskesboom
Around the year 1400, according to legend, a “small statue” of “Our Lady” was found on a fence in a meadow. The finder took it to the priest of Asten, who placed it in the parish church of Asten. The statue disappeared from the church and was found back on the fence where it had been found. In the days that followed, the statue appeared to have returned to Ommel “of its own accord”. On its journey, the statue is said to have rested under a lime tree. At this spot, on the outskirts of Asten, a small statue of Mary still stands on a small mound on the “Keskesboom”. The statue is made of sandstone.
