Former tram station
In the early 20th century, the tram line from Asten via Ommel and Vlierden to Helmond was constructed. A tram station was built on Marialaan in Ommel. On Wednesday 23 May 1906, the first tram travelled along this route. From the tram station on what is now Prins Bernhardstraat in Asten, the route went to this tram station in Ommel, then via Beek and Oostappen to Brouwhuis. In Vlierden, there were stops at Beersdonk and Peeleik. The tram then travelled a short distance through Bakel to reach Helmond. There, it ran along Deurneseweg, via Rooseind to Helmond railway station, and on to the junction at Wachthuis 33 on Mierloscheweg, where it connected with the tram line to Eindhoven. A tram ran back and forth six times a day.
