The sandstone statue of Bartholomeus is situated in a niche at the top of the Bartholomeus building, a former convent of the Sisters of Charity. It has since been converted into apartments.
The Sisters of Charity founded a convent in Asten in 1841 in close collaboration with the then parish priest Bartholomeus Kemps (1787–1863). Hence the name Bartholomeus for the convent.
As a result, the statue of Bartholomeus was presumably placed in 1934 on Kerkstraat above the stained glass window over the entrance. The architect of this national heritage monument is L. de Vries.
