De Walsberg, formerly written as Wasberg, was a simple hamlet, which already existed around 1340. The name 'mountain' indicates that the settlement originated at a small height in the landscape. The collection of houses was situated on a sand ridge, surrounded by heathland, which was later reclaimed so that agricultural businesses could be established there.
