Lourdesgrot Mariahout Laarbeek
The Lourdes grotto was built in 1934, Bishop Diepen gave permission for it. The statue of Our Lady of Lourdes in the grotto is 1.80 metres high and stands 4.50 metres above ground level. The consecration of the Grotto took place on 30th May 1935 and was attended by thousands of pilgrims. The polyphonic songs of praise were sung by loudspeakers.
The Lourdes grotto of Mariahout was built in the years 1936-1937 by pastor Van Eindhoven. At the end of the twentieth century the grotto fell into disrepair. In 1998 it was completely rebuilt. Many volunteers from Mariahout worked on this.
On 30 May 1999 the cave was blessed again. Again, many people come to pray and light a candle. Especially in 2008, when it was celebrated that the pilgrimage site of Lourdes had existed for 150 years. In addition, the parish also celebrated its 75th anniversary that year.
