Peter Hoeben and Jan Steenbekkers are exhibiting at Kunstpodium 't Oude Raadhuis. From paintbrush to welding torch, and from nature to scrap metal.
At Kunstpodium 't Oude Raadhuis in Beek en Donk, two worlds come together under one roof in a new exhibition. Peter Hoeben works as an impressionist painter using acrylic paint. Nature is his main source of inspiration. Landscapes, light, seasons and atmosphere play a central role in his work. Hoeben paints not so much what he sees, but what he experiences. With loose brushstrokes, areas of colour and a subtle play of light and movement, he manages to capture moments that are recognisable, but never literal. His paintings exude tranquillity, space and attention to the fleeting nature of nature. You see landscapes with hills and horizons, but above all their contours in vague strokes and warm colours. Peter Hoeben is part of Atelier Nuenen. And of Kubra Art, just like the second artist exhibiting.
Jan Steenbekkers is better known as JMH. He received a welding machine on his 11th birthday. Soon he was nicknamed Jan Maakt Het (Jan Makes It), JMH. And now he makes objects from old metals. Screws, nuts, bolts, cutlery, gears, chains. Anything that can be welded is eligible for a new life as a work of art. For example, he made a touching little man out of nails and a bicycle lamp. A motorbike made of bolts and screws, a whole seahorse or a guitar in which an old bicycle chain can still be recognised. A bird feeding its young with pliers as a beak and a screw as food. Scrap metal, scrap, as art. Scrap art by JMH. Jan Steenbekkers is also part of Kubra Art.
The work of these two artists is on display at the Kunstpodium 't Oude Raadhuis. The exhibition is closed during the carnival weekend of 14 and 15 February.
