IVN Laarbeek is organising a public walk through the Biezen nature reserve.

This landscape walk, which focuses on flora, fauna and water management, starts at the house at De Biezen 5 in Aarle-Rixtel.

De Biezen is managed by Staatsbosbeheer (the Dutch Forestry Commission). The terrain contains many different landscape elements: botanically rich rough grasslands, wet deciduous forests on loamy soil, swamp forest with so-called rabatten (narrow dikes between the ditches), and dry oak forest. The area is also known for part of the old landwehr, which was constructed in the Middle Ages. You can walk across wooden log bridges. On the north side towards the N272 and on the east side flows the Snelle Loop, which forms an ecological connection with the Grotel and Milschot areas. It forms the border between Laarbeek and Gemert. From the footbridge in the Bruggenpad, you have a magnificent view of the various landscape elements. Herb-rich blue grasslands line the stream.

In addition to the various species of plants and mushrooms, De Biezen is also an area rich in birdlife. Walking along the path towards the forester's house, you will often hear and see nuthatches and woodpeckers in the old trees. This landscape walk is definitely worthwhile.
