Children from grades 4 through 8 who love baking and storytelling can participate in "Cooking and Baking" with Maartje Taartje.

In this baking series, they create their own recipe together with a (grand)parent. They write down the recipe, try it out at home, and conclude with a fun baking competition.

On the first afternoon, the children listen to a story and create their own recipe. Together with their (grand)parent, they create a mood board full of ideas. On the second afternoon, the children learn how to clearly write down a recipe. They also discover how AI can help with text and drawings and think about what they like best. The children bake their dish at home and present it on the third afternoon during a baking competition at Theehuis bij de Boompjes. A jury will judge the dishes on taste, originality, and the recipe. All participants will receive their own recipe book to take home.

The workshops are led by Loes van de Laar from Aarle-Rixtel. She works in healthcare and writes and draws in her spare time. Her book "Maartje Taartje zoekt haar verloren recepten" (March Taartje is looking for her lost recipes) is the inspiration for the series. The baking series will take place on Wednesdays, March 4th and 18th at De Dreef in Aarle-Rixtel. The baking competition will be held on April 8th at Theehuis bij de Boompjes. The cost is per baking duo (child & (grand)parent). Registration is possible via the website of the Lage Beemden library.
