A Different Way of Seeing – Art, Stories & Wonder

“I don’t really know much about art…” Good news: you don’t need to!

During A Different Way of Seeing - Art, Stories & Wonder, four interactive sessions invite you to discover just how much you can see when you really take the time to look. Together, you’ll explore stories, details, unexpected connections and personal meanings hidden within the artworks at Museum De Wieger.

This is not a traditional art history course filled with dates and complicated terminology. Instead, the focus is on observation, curiosity, conversation and discovery. Using the exhibition Brabant Modern – Following Sluijters and Other Innovators as inspiration, you’ll explore why one artwork moves you while another does not, what a work can reveal about its creator and why different people can see completely different things in the same painting.

The sessions are led by Maartje Vos of De Museumdocent. Through conversations, observation exercises, humour and surprising insights, she makes art accessible and personal. There are no right or wrong answers – it is precisely the different perspectives that make the discussions so interesting.

The four sessions

• 11 October: Why do we look at art? Exploring art without prior knowledge
• 25 October: The stories behind paintings
• 8 November: The artist as a person
• 22 November: Experiencing art with all your senses and expressing your own opinion

Whether you regularly visit museums or simply want to discover how to get more out of looking at art, everyone with a curious mind is welcome.
