During the National Reading Days, De Lage Beemden Library invites young children and their (grand)parents to two festive activities packed with activity, stories, and fun.
This year, the focus is on "Little Monkey" by Mies van Hout, the picture book of the year 2026.
They'll start with a cheerful morning of dance and reading aloud at the Community Center in Lieshout. They'll read from "Little Monkey," and then Cindy will lead a playful dance activity. Children will dance, jump, and experience the story as if they were out and about with Little Monkey themselves. In the evening, the reading party continues with pajama parties for toddlers and preschoolers aged 2 to 5. Children come to the library in their pajamas and with their stuffed animals to listen to the story of Little Monkey, who has something very special to tell. She sets off before dawn, but no one really wants to listen to her... or do they? The evening will take place at the libraries in Beek en Donk and Aarle-Rixtel from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
Reading aloud to children aged 0 to 6 strengthens vocabulary, helps with text comprehension, and increases empathy. National Reading Days demonstrate the value and enjoyment of reading together. Please register for both activities via the library website. The pajama parties are free, and there is a small fee for the dance activity.
