Discover the remarkable cityscapes and landscapes of artist Stefan Bleekrode in the exhibition Distant Views at De Ateliers in Museum De Wieger. Through intricate pen-and-ink drawings and atmospheric watercolours, Bleekrode takes you on a journey through bustling cities, remote mountain villages and fascinating places in Italy, Eastern Europe, England and the United States.
His work is characterised by extraordinary detail and a fascinating use of light and perspective. What initially appears almost photographic reveals itself, on closer inspection, to be an artistic interpretation of reality. Sometimes, Bleekrode even invents entire imaginary cities.
Born in 1986 and raised in Brabant, Bleekrode has received several awards, including the Mondriaan Atelier Prize. This exhibition marks the first time his work is being shown at Museum De Wieger, close to where he grew up.
