Procession Park and statue of Mary in Ommel
In Ommel, next to and behind the church, you will find the Mariaoord Ommel Procession Park. This park was laid out in 1913 because of the many pilgrimages to Ommel.
The park contains 14 Stations of the Cross and six chapels in which the history of Ommel is depicted through unique sandstone sculptures. The park also features a Calvary and a Marian grotto. The monumental park will be completely restored in 2022/2023 and equipped with beautiful wheelchair-friendly paths. In addition to the park, the tour will of course also focus on the statue of Mary located in the church. This is a Byzantine statue that was found around 1400. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. The church is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

De Oostenwind windmill
The windmill in Asten is a so-called post mill or standard mill, the oldest type of windmill in our country. It is not known exactly how old the windmill is, but the year 1506 can be found in the post, and according to old writings, there was already a windmill there before that time.
Are you curious about this mill and the miller's work? Then come to De Oostenwind mill for a guided tour. If there is enough wind, the mill will turn and possibly grind grain.
The mill is open on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (from November to March, it is only open in reasonable weather). When open, the mill is in operation and the miller is present to provide explanations. Advance reservations are not necessary. Admission is free. A small contribution towards the maintenance of the mill is greatly appreciated.

Maria Presentatiekerk
At the end of the 19th century, Asten was a fairly wealthy village with many factories and affluent dignitaries. It was time for a new church, so between 1896 and 1898, a church was built in the then modern neo-Gothic style. This impressive building was designed by architect Caspar Fransen from Roermond. The church was officially consecrated on 19 September 1898.
Would you like to learn more about this church, its beautiful murals, the main altar, the Stations of the Cross, the statues of the Calvary group and the church museum in the choir loft? Then come to the Church of the Presentation of Mary for a guided tour. The church is open to visitors every day.

Castle ruins
On the edge of the Peel, hidden behind lush vegetation, lie the romantic remains of the more than 600-year-old castle of Asten. The idyllic ruins evoke an eventful past of land reclamation, wars and witch hunts. The last war proved fatal for the castle. In 1944, an attack on the castle reduced the building to ruins.
It is currently not safe to give guided tours. The castle is also not open to individual visitors. Keep an eye on our website for news!
