Museum & Castle walking route

Museum Klok & Peel shows the largest collection of bells and chimes in the world. In a timeline, you follow themes from the origin and the ringing of the bell to the casting and voting. This walk also takes you to the castle ruins in Asten-Heusden. On the edge of De Peel, hidden behind lush vegetation, are the romantic remains of the more than 600 year old castle of Asten. The idyllic ruin evokes a turbulent past of reclamations, wars and witch hunts. The last war has become fatal to the castle, in 1944 a phosphorus grenade ruins the castle. 

The castle may have fallen, but the castle farms are still there in all their glory and have been continuously inhabited for the centuries that they have existed. Along the way you will find plenty of resting places with picnic tables and benches. 

Note: The castle is not open to individual visitors. Due to reconstruction work the premises are not open to guided tours in 2025.
