Aa-valley from De Berken - Asten
This 11 km route takes you to De Berken, a small nature reserve near the hamlet of de Berken through which the Astense Aa flows. The Astense Aa was channeled between 1960 and 1970 over almost its entire length of 21 km, except for the part in this nature reserve. Here the river meanders through De Berken to above Oostappen.
On beautiful summer evenings, the area is attractive due to various species of bats and a population of glowworms. Along the river is a war memorial in memory of the crew of a Lancaster who was shot down here by the Germans during the war. Along the way you will find plenty of rest areas with picnic tables.
