Lock 5 and bridge
Lock V was the last lock in the Wilhelmina Canal and is no longer in use. Lock V was not a lock, there is no gradient (difference in height of water), but a turning lock. The lock at Lieshout was intended to create an extra canal pile if, for example, work was being done on the canal banks and the water level between two locks had to be lowered.
The bridge at lock 5 was blown up twice during WWII, in 1940 by Dutch troops for defence and in 1944 the now repaired bridge was blown up again, this time by German troops.
