Who is this a real outing for?
For everyone from Beek en Donk, Laarbeek, and the surrounding area who is in the mood for something fun on Monday evening. If you are on the dance floor for the first time, you start with the basic step. If you have danced salsa before, you pick up your steps again and learn new combinations. You do not need to bring a dance partner. You dance together with people from your own village, and afterwards you will naturally know a few new faces.
Who teaches the class?
The class is taught by Erind El Cacique, founder of the dance school Dance and Flow in Eindhoven. He started ballet and modern dance in 1996 and discovered Caribbean dances in Italy in 2000. He learned son, salsa in Cuban, Los Angeles, and New York styles, and On2 Puerto Rican Style. In New York, he studied with Eddie Torres and Frankie Martinez, among others. He also completed flamenco training. Flamenco has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010. In 2006, he founded Dance and Flow. His specialties are salsa technique, Afro-Cuban dance, musicality, body isolation, and styling. He has taught and performed in Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Australia, among other places. After twenty years in Eindhoven and other locations, he is now coming to Beek en Donk.
Erind teaches in English, using simple words and primarily by demonstrating the movements. Laura Bijster assists him during the classes in Beek en Donk. She demonstrates the steps along with him and explains things in Dutch. With salsa, you learn mainly by watching, imitating, and dancing. So, you don't need to understand every word to follow the lesson well.
What can you expect?
Erind demonstrates every step calmly, you imitate him, and if it doesn't work out, we simply do it again. You dance with a different person each time, so you naturally get to know everyone. Did you enjoy it? Then a course of five Monday evenings follows.
Where does salsa come from?
Salsa has its roots in the son, a music and dance form from Cuba. The son has been on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage since December 2025. The rumba from Cuba is also UNESCO heritage, since 2016. Both styles are part of Erind's background. So, you are learning to dance from someone who knows the source of salsa.
Our tip for your visit
Wear shoes that allow you to turn easily and bring a bottle of water. Otherwise, you don't need to bring anything; your enthusiasm is enough.
