Wim Daniëls gives a talk (in Aarle-Rixtel dialect) on the life and work of Arnoud van Eijndhouts at the Kouwenbergs Kerkje in Aarle-Rixtel.
Eijndhoudts was born in 1510 in Huize Ter Smisse in Aarle-Rixtel. Under the name Arnoldus Arlenius Peraxylus, he would later in his life enjoy great fame in Italy as a bookseller, book collector and book corrector. He also compiled a Greek-Latin dictionary, published in 1546. The “Friends of Arlenius” group bought an original copy of this dictionary in an antiquarian bookshop in Florence two years ago. That dictionary will also be on display at the lecture, as well as another original book (from 1544) in the creation of which Arlenius was involved. That book, too, was acquired by the “Friends of Arlenius”.
