Museum: Bosmuseum
At the edge of the Ripse woods, a hand-carved forest museum stands in the open air. This wooden canopy, with theme panels, has been built authentically. Of Rip's wood, of course. Through themed panels, the forest museum tells at a glance how the area changed from heath to forest and how the village came into existence. Old newspaper pictures show that the clearing, first with six oxen and later with huge steam ploughs, was a mighty spectacle. The faces of hard-working forest workers planting, felling and sawing trees speak volumes. When you see the panel on the construction of the first roads, you immediately feel how remote this area was. Who were the founders, the foresters and the forest workers? What is the oldest house and how did people and the forest fare in wartime? The forest museum shows you it all.
