Tommy Wieringa (b. 1967), one of today's most lauded writers, spent
the first part of his childhood on Aruba. When he was nine the family moved back
to the Netherlands, after which Wieringa lived for a long time in Geesteren, Twente. After finishing
high school, he studied history and journalism. In 1995 he made his debut
with the novel Dormantique's manco, but the big breakthrough came with the novel Joe
Speedboat (2005). This book was nominated for many awards and was awarded
the F. Bordewijk Prize for narrative prose. For his 2012 novel These are the names
he received the Libris Literature Prize. With the novel Saint Rita (2017) about a father
and a son, and about the new era in a traditional frontier village, he made a big impression
on his readers…
