An exhibition is taking place at art venue 't Oude Raadhuis in Beek en Donk. Every Saturday and Sunday, you are welcome to admire the work of Anne-Marie Somers and Sjoukje Dop.

Anne-Marie Somers was born in 1959 in 's-Hertogenbosch. As soon as she could hold a pencil, she started drawing. After secondary school, she went to the St Lucas creative school in Boxtel, after which she took a course in drawing in 's-Hertogenbosch. Anne-Marie's paintings often have something mystical about them. She combines colours and shapes into a good composition in which society, people or nature play a central role and in which you can see what her feelings are. The colours can be exuberant or subdued. This is in contrast to her Twinkle paintings for children, which depict a frivolous, lovely, romantic fantasy world. Her cheerful, fairy-tale paintings can be found and ordered on Instagram and www.twinkelschilderijen.nl and on work on the wall. Instagram and www.artbysomers.com feature her free work.

Sjoukje Dop grew up in Roden, in the province of Drenthe, close to Groningen. She considered going to art school, but started studying pharmacy. After graduating, she got a job in Utrecht and moved to 's-Hertogenbosch. For ten years, she travelled back and forth to Utrecht every day. After quitting, she found time for other activities. This is how she ended up at ArtCentrum De Ark in Haarsteeg and became passionate about painting portraits. Sjoukje uses large canvases and sketches on them with acrylic. She then paints numerous layers of oil paint over it. She subconsciously strives for perfection and wants to master the techniques better and better, but the world is not perfect and not everything can be made. And it is precisely in imperfection that beauty often lies. Especially in a face. The portrait is not finished until the gaze touches it. Instagram: sjoukjedop.
