Maria danste ballet sinds ze 5 jaar was. Ze was gepassioneerd verliefd op het ballet, maar het paste toch niet helemaal bij haar. Gedurende haar studie startte ze met flamenco les. Dát paste als een maatpak bij haar temperament, haar ronde lichaam en gevoelige ziel. Maar Nederland werd haar al snel te klein, dus trok de ongeduldige jonge vrouw in 1999 naar Sevilla om verder te studeren. Het hol van de leeuw bleek in het begin een moeilijke plek te zijn, waar ze vele gevechten heeft moeten leveren. Maar door haar talent en volharding kwam ze op een punt dat flamenco een deel van haar wezen werd en ze gerespecteerd en geliefd werd bij de beroemdste artiesten van de wereld. Ze kon haar voeten in de sevillaanse aarde planten en eindelijk wortel schieten. Inmiddels is ze een wereldwijd bekende en geliefde danseres, die aan het hoofd staat van haar eigen geelschap én flamenco podium 

“Parte de mí” betekent “een deel van mij”. Ze legt in deze voorstelling met veel vuur haar ziel bloot en laat alle stijlen zijn die zich in haar gedurende al deze jaren in haarbloed zijn gaan zitten. Ze viert haar 25 jaar als professioneel flamenco danseres samen met de artiesten waar ze dagelijks mee werkt op haar geliefde podium Flamenco Esencia in Sevilla: de gepassioneerde doch elegante zigeunerdanser, Antonio Moreno “Polito”, de veteraan Juan José Amador, het jonge talent Juan Fernández en de virtuose gitarist Luis Amador.

Dancer María ‘La Serrana’ is known for her pure flamenco style of dancing, which is based on fierce footwork, emotion, and improvisational talent. In 1999, she moved to Seville where she studied under the elegant Mathilde Coral and the distinguished Manuela Carrasco. However, dancer Farruquito is her greatest maestro.

Maria began with ballet dancing at the age of five. She was deeply passionate about it, but it didn’t quite suite her. During her studies, she started taking flamenco lessons, which resonated perfectly with her temperament, curved body, and sensitive soul. She soon outgrew the Netherlands, so the impatient young woman moved to Seville in 1999 to continue her studies over there. Initially, the ‘lion’s den’ proved challenging, and she had to face many battles. However, thanks to her talent and perseverance, Flamenco ultimately became an integral part of her life. She earned respect and won the love of the most renowned artists. She finally gained a foothold in Seville and put down roots there. She is now a world famous and beloved dancer, who is in charge of her own company and flamenco stage. 

‘Parte de mi’ means ‘a part of me.’ In this show, she is baring her soul in a passionate way and is showcasing all flamenco styles that have become an integral part of her over the years. She is celebrating her 25th anniversary as a flamenco dancer jointly with the artists she works with on a daily basis at her beloved ‘Flamenco Esencia’ stage in Seville, being the passionate yet elegant gypsy dancer Antonio Moreno ‘Polito’, the veteran Juan José Amador, the young talented Juan Fernández and the brilliant guitarist Luis Amador.
