Exhibition The Good Hope

The Aarlese music society is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, which is why there is an exhibition about the club at Het Heemhuis this month. 

The picture was taken on Whit Monday in the year 1974. On that weekend, 50 years ago, a large marquee stood on the fairgrounds on Dr Timmersstraat. A veritable folk festival was then celebrated here for four days with numerous and diverse performances and hundreds of visitors. You can see here some musicians from the youth court chapel De Vatabieren performing here together with the Youth Choir during the Matinee. Over-50s from Aarle-Rixtel will no doubt recognise many faces.

Apart from this picture, many atmospheric photos were taken of the centenary of the Good Hope at the time. You can view all these in large format via the very extensive digital photo album in The Heemhuis. During the exhibition, you will also be treated to a nice overview of all the uniforms, all kinds of impressive facts and wonderful film material. For example, the amateur film from the late 1970s about the 'Wheel of Adventure' at the Aarlese fair. Another gem for the over-50s. But there is also plenty to see about the last 20 years.
