I was born in Haarlem in 1950 and in 1957 our family moved to Eindhoven. At the age of 18, I was happy to leave school and went to the police academy in Amsterdam. In 1974, I returned to the land of Brabant and went to work in Helmond. I have not left the region since and now live and work as a sculptor in Aarle-Rixtel.

From an early age, I have had a great affinity with materials that radiate a certain durability, solidity and strength, such as stone, hardwood, steel and so on. Even as a child, when visiting a church or other old building, I would look more at the marble and stone used than at the meaning and architecture of it. My preference is for three-dimensional work. Pieces with a certain monumentality appeal to me. Initially it was the craft of the stonemason that encouraged me to take the chisel in hand. By chopping a lot of different types of stone, it became clear to me that harder types, such as marble, bluestone and granite, suit me better. And so the urge to discover, form and create was born. Society in all its facets is so complex and so multifaceted that man and his environment form an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me. Everything that grows and blossoms, lives and moves continues to fascinate and challenge me. As a sculptor, I am completely self-taught and follow my own feeling and experience. For me, a sculpture is successful if it evokes something of an emotion in the viewer.

workshop
Every Friday and Saturday I give a workshop sculpting in hard stone.
The day starts at 9.30 am and ends at 4.30 pm, after which it's time to put away your things and have a drink. At about 12.30, a good lunch is offered, which is included in the price. We work mainly in hard stone (bluestone) and various types of marble. You can bring your own stone (no soapstone), or buy from what I have in stock.

Tools

You will have a set at your disposal, consisting of some chisels, a mallet and two rasps. Of course you can bring your own tools. Sandpaper can be bought from me. Use of electric hand tools only in consultation. We work in the open air, so make sure you bring appropriate clothing. If it rains we put up 3 x 3 tents. In the winter there is a wood stove in the workshop. Safety glasses, gloves, dust and ear protection are recommended. Everyone works at his/her own pace and according to his/her own ideas, and gets from me the individual attention he/she needs.

Maximum 6 participants per workshop day, so much personal attention.
